Problem Note 42884: The note "SQL generation will be used to perform the initial summarization" is not generated when you enable the -SQLGENERATION option

DetailsAboutRate It

When you set the -SQLGENERATION option in the SAS configuration file (ssasv9_local.cfg), the following note should be displayed:

NOTE: SQL generation will be used to perform the initial summarization.

This note should be displayed when you submit the -SQLGENERATION option on a DB2 metadata library (Metadata Library Engine) similar to the following:

-sqlgeneration=(none dbms='DB2')

The note above is issued in the following circumstances:

  • when -SQLGENERATION is set as noted in the previous example
  • when the library is assigned explicitly using the native DB2 engine with Base SAS® software, as shown in the following LIBNAME statement. Base SAS software does not use the Metadata Library Engine (META).

    libname dwlib db2 datasrc=server-name user=user-id password=password schema=schema;

However, if you add SQLGENERATION=(NONE DBMS='DB2') in SAS® Management Console ( Library Properties ► Advanced Options), the following LIBNAME statement and errors are generated:

libname dw02 db2 direct_exe=delete sqlgeneration=(none dbms='DB2')
                 datasrc=server-name user=user-id password=password schema=schema;

ERROR 23-7: Invalid value for the SQLGENERATION option.
ERROR 22-7: Invalid option name NONE.

These same errors are generated when you use the LIBNAME statement with the META engine, as follows:

libname dwmeta meta library="dw02" repname="Foundation" sqlgeneration==(none dbms='db2');

Changing the value to SQLGENERATION=DBMS results in the following warning, which indicates that the SQLGENERATION= option is not implemented for use with the META engine:

libname dwmeta meta library="dw02" repname="Foundation" sqlgeneration=dbms;

WARNING 278-63: The option SQLGENERATION is not implemented in the META engine.

The new syntax for the SQLGENERATION= option (SQLGENERATION=(NONE DBMS='DB2')) is not a valid LIBNAME option. It is valid only as a system option. In addition, in-database processing with the Metadata Library Engine, META, is not supported in SAS 9.2.

Support for in-database processing with the META engine is available with SAS 9.3.
